The Chinese Lady

Lloyd Suh’s The Chinese Lady performed at The Public Theater, produced by Ma-Yi Theater Company. A play inspired by the true story of the first Chinese woman to step foot in America. Atung’s character wears a flat patterned jacket and tunic made from custom printed poplin. The tailcoat, an existing garment has fabric pieces applied to portray the art of kintsugi.

Directed by Ralph B. Peña, scenic design by Junghyun Georgia Lee, lighting design by Jiyoun Chang and Elizabeth Mak, costume design by Linda Cho.
